There have been changes here at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
I know. It’s the first office I’ve ever had that doesn’t have four wheels and a leak coming from somewhere in the undercarriage.
I’m kind of in shock. But it’s also incredibly cool. Stephen King said in order to work all you need is “a door you’re willing to shut,” but he never said how long it would take to get a door.
Well, now I have one. And it shuts.
But there’s more.
On the other side of the door is a desk. I sat down and leaned on the desk and it slid down and smacked my knees. It’s a standing desk. I’ve read about these. I have to figure out how to lock it so it doesn’t droop every time I put my elbows down.
Here’s the POV from the door that shuts. Not too homey, yet, but that’s up to me to fix. Serious question: How does one decorate an office? I was told to leave a jar of chocolates or something around so that students will want to drop in. I was also told to make the place smell good via some kind of good-smell diffuser. Clearly, there should be books around, too. A guitar? They look nice. Electric, though. Acoustics can look hokey.
If you have suggestions, could you let me know?
As for the work, well, as it says outside the door, I’m now a Visiting Assistant Arts Professor. I’m finding out what my new responsibilities are, but I get to continue teaching songwriting, which is why I started doing this in the first place.
So, yeah. “Back to school” has a whole new meaning this fall.
…or you could just buy me a coffee, if you like.
"Everything Leaks" = title of your next song?
Congrats, Herr Professor!
Congrats!! You deserve it!
